The Birth of Birthing Well

My journey began in October 2024 when I was told that I could no longer rent from the location we had been using for years. I decided it was time to get my own space that is dedicated to pregnant and postpartum women.
In my mind this has to be pretty simple since America is the land of the entrepreneur. Really. How hard can it be? After much prayer I moved forward and found a commercial realtor. She told me it would take a year to launch my idea and I thought she was crazy... Fast forward a year and here we are with a place in progress, but not done. I now have to admit that she actually knew what she was talking about.
This had been a labor of love. Finding a location took from November 2024 til deciding on one and signing a contract in April 2025. I have to admit that I had no idea what I was doing, but prayed the Lord would be with me.
Now on to the next step. Just like a baby being born, this buildout process is taking 9 months, determination, and a lot of support. I had to even find myself a "construction doula." That might sound crazy, but she has been a lift and encouragement to me during the whole process.
What began as a dream is now turning into a reality. Who knew that I would use my doula skills for this project? I have had to learn about construction culture, new terminology, how to navigate in the commercial space, how to advocate for myself, and give control to God. Let's hope that I can endure this labor process (no pun intended).
