Postpartum Doula Training
This part of the training is a mix of videos and 1 in-person class. You will watch the videos before training day.
Lactation Counselor
This video class explores the simplicity and complexity of navigating the feeding journey.
Baby Loss
1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage, so we want our doulas trained to support clients through all the possibilities. These topics are explored through a video format.
Serving Trauma Clients
We all encounter little and big traumas in our life. This video course helps you see the world from a trauma perspective and navigate serving clients with respectful maternity care.
Doula Business Training: Setting Up and Running Your Practice
This comprehensive training equips birth and postpartum doulas with the essential business skills needed to establish, operate, and grow a successful doula practice. Participants will learn practical strategies for creating sustainable income while maintaining their passion for supporting families.
Childbirth Class
This video format walks you through a common childbirth class, so you can understand what birth is like and how it may affect postpartum recovery.
Certification Description
At Birthing Well Postpartum Doula Training we believe that doulas can support clients well with a variety of tools and views in their doula skills belt. We help you explore your own views and understand the uniqueness of each client you will serve.

None. College-level reading skills needed. If other accommodations need to be made, we can provide flexibility. Please contact us.
Course Materials
This training requires 4 hours of prerecorded videos to be completed at your own pace before the training day. Once registered, you will get an email with the link to the videos. Please complete them before attending the in-person part of the class. After the training day there will be more steps to complete in order to certify. There are no additional fees to certify as all costs are included in this price.
You will be given a manual during the in person class. Specific assignments required for your training will be taken from the following books.
You will choose 3 postpartum books to read from the list below. You will need to purchase/borrow/check out from the library these books separately, as they are not included in the cost of registration.

Course Format
Once registered and logged into class, you will be granted access to your coursework online. The content is taught in written form and video format. You can complete the work at your own pace and schedule. You will also attend a 4-hour in-person training.
Course Content
Welcome to our comprehensive course for aspiring postpartum doulas! Our specialized training focuses on equipping you with the essential skills to help both doulas and their clients regulate their nervous systems. You'll learn about healthy boundaries, soothing baby, setting up breast pumps, caring for a newborn, supporting postpartum moms, babywearing, bottle-feeding, record-keeping, and signs of postpartum depression. By the end of this course, you'll be prepared to support clients with hands-on practice and a deep understanding of comfort and doula business fundamentals, ensuring emotionally safe and empowering experiences.
Assessment
Once you have completed each video section, you will have quiz within the module. Passing the quiz with 80% is required to progress.
To finish certification requires:

completion of the in person postpartum doula training

completion of all the 6 video courses

supporting 2 postpartum clients
-
reading 3 books and submitting summaries
-
creating a list of 45 resources you will use to help your clients

2 article summaries from Evidencebasedbirth.com

CPR trained certificate

attending 2 local mom groups
Certificate Renewal
We require that you renew your certificate every 3 years. This helps keep you up to date with your doula skills. To renew your certificate you will pay a $70 fee and submit evidence of 10 hours of continuing education credits (CEU).
