Opening 2026!
MidTN Mother's Alliance of Milk Makers
We believe that milk sharing can be done in a safe way. Our model is constructed upon the 4 pillars of safe milk sharing that have helped protect families for over 40 years:
-
Informed Choice
-
Safe Handling
-
Donor Screening
-
Home Pasteurization
Walker, S., & Armstrong, M. (2012). The four pillars of safe breast milks sharing. Midwifery Today with International Midwife, (101) 34-7

We're different from milk banks because we help families at home, not babies in the hospital ICU. But like milk banks, we care a lot about keeping everyone safe.

Women who want to give milk have to go through a screening process to make sure their milk is healthy and safe. This is almost the same as what milk banks do. But it's important to know that we are not actually a milk bank - we're a community group that helps families share milk safely.

Families are taught to pasteurize the milk at home. This allows the milk alliance to provide safe, and accessible donated human milk at no cost. Families are also educated and supported in their breastfeeding journey, on the safe processes for pasteurization, handling, storing and feeding of human milk.

Two additional rules are that no one pays money for milk, and all milk gets heated up to kill germs before babies drink it.

Benefits:
-
Fills the gaps for families that don’t qualify for milk from a milk bank or can’t afford it
-
Short term solution to help you increase your supply and feed your baby
-
Our milk sharing group is free - milk givers don't get paid, and families who need milk don't have to pay anything.

*We have a freezer on site to drop off and pickup milk.
